Weekend Haps

This weekend we experienced a little bit of what it would be like to have two kids. On Saturday our friends Hilary and Matt added a new one to their family. So while that was all going down we watched after their two year old little, big girl Reese. We had Reese through the weekend and said goodbye yesterday afternoon. I think Scarlett was pretty excited to say goodbye to Reese after three days of playing/fighting/sharing/not sharing, but I have a feeling she's going to miss her playmate!

Saturday we took a rental car up to an abandoned mansion about an hour north of Budapest. It was once used as a summer home for a rich Jewish family before WWII. During the war they fled and never returned to claim their property. After the fall of Communism the government tried to reach the family. The only living relative, a 93 year old woman in Britain, wanted nothing to do with it.

There were plans to turn it into a five star hotel but nothing has been started and for now it just sits in disrepair...

On the way...These two kept each other entertained...it was a beautiful thing...

Scarlett at 13 months...

*Is shy with strangers (and people she knows)
*Is handing out kisses like there's no tomorrow
*Can walk but chooses to crawl
*Says: hi, bye, mama, dada and possibly some Hungarian words :)
*Loves to eat: chicken, spagetti, cottage cheese, cookies, yogurt, lasagna, ice cream, raspberries, mango, pears, watermelon, peaches, strawberries, chocolate and crackers
*Has issues with food textures like: rice, mashed potatoes, cheese, oatmeal, apples, and pretzels
*Gags when I give her milk (even chocolate milk)
*Will sort out vegetables from other food in her mouth and spit the vegetables out
*Hates the wind and sun in her face
*Hates her carseat
*Loves her stroller
*Still wakes up once in the night
*Sleeps until 8-9 in the morning
*Loves to go to the playground and watch children
*Loves to climb on everything
*Still only has two teeth
*Works her tongue like I've never seen a tongue worked before
*Loves to talk on the cell phone and slam the keys on the computer
*Blows kisses, waves bye-bye, loves to sing, is ticklish, and picks on kids older than her
*Weighs 19 1/2 lbs and is 29 inches long
*Is very loved

On Monday we headed down to Zagreb, Croatia for a little trip. Our friend Tamas was kind enough to drive us and let us stay at his place.

On Tuesday we headed to our favorite National Park, Plitvic. On the way we stopped at this little town built in the middle of a river. It's kind of crazy and very noisy.

Berlin Day 8

Berlin was great and the weather was perfect.

The Holocaust Memorial was right on. It brought on all the right emotions one should feel when thinking about the Holocaust. The memorial takes up a HUGE block right in the heart of Berlin. The museum under the memorial was also great. It focused more on individuals rather than the event itself which was different than what we have experienced before with other museums on the Holocaust.

I thought this was cool...this was a church that had been bombed during the war that they left standing. If you look closely the windows are all blown out and the steeple is missing

Tallinn Estonia Days 5,6 & 7

Tallinn was a really cool city but we had way too much time. You can see most of Tallinn in a half day. We were there for two and half so by the last day we were looking for things to do.

Saying goodbye to Grammy and Papa's ship

We checked out the Tallinn zoo even though we had heard it was ghetto. Pretty much it lived up to its reputation. It seemed like every animal was housed in a dog kennel. Here is a snow leopard.

This crocodile didn't move from this position the whole time we were standing there. I'm pretty sure it was fake :) How sweet would that be, fake animals at the zoo!

We also went to Tallinn's open air museum...boring...
